A disciple is a follower of Jesus. When we make a decision to follow Jesus, we don’t automatically know everything we need to know about how to live as his follower. Part of the way the church leads you as parents, is to help you learn and grow in Jesus. This is called discipleship. The Cove Church wants to teach you about Jesus and how he instructs us to live. As a family, you can do this through reading the Bible or Bible stories, talking about what you read, praying and worshiping together as a family. When we do these things regularly, we will grow in Jesus and learn how to show his love to others.

Deuteronomy 6:4-9 talks about passing our faith down to our children. It tells us to teach our children wherever we are, in whatever we are doing. Below you will find discussion guides on how to talk through what a disciple is and how your children can be a disciple.

What is a Disciple?

Someone who has accepted Christ to be their forever friend and is the example of Jesus every day. They tell their friends about Jesus, share their things with others, and loves others as Christ loves them.

Have your child watch Journey’s for Jesus, and then use the questions below to talk through what it means to tell others about Jesus.

Who is God’s Good News About?

It is about God. The Bible tells us all of the stories of miracles He performed, Jesus’ story,

and a lot of other people that God used to spread His word to others.

Who is God’s news for?

It is for EVERYONE!

God tells us to share Jesus with everyone. Who can you share Jesus with?

Everyone. Ask your child who they would like to share Jesus within the next few weeks

and what they want to tell that person.

Have your child watch the Disciples Making Disciples episode of Konnect HQ, and then use the following questions to talk through how we can be a disciple?

What is a disciple?

A person who follows, learns from, and lives for Jesus.

To copy Jesus’ example, you need to know what He did. What do you think will help you find out what He did?

How do you think it helps others when you follow Jesus’ example?

Answers will vary. Ideas: they can learn how to follow Jesus from your example, they can

grow closer to Jesus when they copy you, etc.
